Esther - The Queen of AoE and Burst in Early Game
/characters/esther

Esther is a maid employed at the Maid & Clover Inn. She can usually be found with a broom in hand and spends most of the day sweeping floors. She won't respond to anyone with more than a few words or chat about anything outside of official business, so don't let the way she's dressed get your hopes up about a warm welcome. In fact, some people have even said that the way she wields her broom seems awfully icy and hostile... and they're probably not wrong about that.

Esther is one of the strongest characters in the early game, mainly due to her ability to deal constant area-of-effect damage while also maintaining excellent burst potential. While some DPS characters rely purely on sustained damage or short burst windows, Esther effectively combines both aspects, making her extremely powerful in content where quickly clearing groups of enemies is essential. She especially shines in Story/Open World content and remains highly effective in other modes, although her performance depends more on proper skill management.
Esther’s gamepla

y revolves around her field, a zone where her basic attacks are transformed into continuous Wind AoE damage. Once positioned inside this field, she can constantly sweep enemies around her without interruption, while also applying effects that disrupt them, such as confusion. This not only allows her to deal steady damage but also improves her survivability by reducing incoming pressure from enemies. This mechanic makes her exceptionally strong at clearing large groups quickly, especially in content with high enemy density.

What makes Esther particularly strong is her ability to maintain AoE pressure while also delivering powerful burst damage through her special skill and ultimate. Unlike Mina, who focuses more on sustained DPS, Esther alternates between consistent damage within her field and high burst windows when her abilities are available. This balance allows her to adapt to a wide range of situations, especially against grouped enemies or during boss vulnerability phases.

However, this strength comes with a trade-off: Esther is highly dependent on her cooldowns. Her optimal AoE output relies on her field, and her special skill has a relatively long cooldown compared to other characters. This means that outside of her active windows, her effectiveness can temporarily drop. Additionally, since her AoE is tied to a fixed area, she can lose efficiency if enemies move out of range or if her positioning is not optimal. As a result, she requires some awareness and positioning to fully maximize her potential.

Despite this, Esther is extremely strong in Story/Open World content. In this mode, where fast clearing and handling multiple enemies are key, she naturally excels. Her ability to deal constant AoE damage while disrupting enemies allows her to safely and efficiently progress through content. She is clearly one of the best characters for exploration and farming.
In Conquest, Esther remains a strong option, but her effectiveness depends more on team composition and the ability to handle boss neutralization. As an Assassin-type character, she benefits from dealing increased damage to stunned enemies, making her extremely powerful during vulnerability windows. Her burst through her ultimate and special skill is ideal for maximizing damage during these phases. However, she is not particularly strong at generating neutralization herself, meaning she performs best alongside characters who can quickly break boss defenses.
In Dimensional Rift, Esther is still very strong but slightly less dominant compared to top-tier characters for this mode. The main limitation comes from her AoE being tied to a fixed zone with a relatively long cooldown. In a mode where speed and fluidity are critical, this can make her slightly less efficient than more mobile or consistent characters like Mina or Sangun. That said, she remains an excellent pick thanks to her high damage output and overall contribution to clearing rooms.

Another important aspect is that Esther, like Mina, is not heavily dependent on Awakenings to perform well. She is already very strong at A0, making her an excellent early-game investment. While her Awakenings further enhance her burst and consistency, they are not required for her to be effective. This makes her both accessible and efficient for players who want a strong character early on.

In summary, Esther is a highly powerful character built around a balance of sustained AoE damage and strong burst potential. She excels in AoE-heavy content and remains very effective in other modes, provided her cooldowns and positioning are managed properly. While she requires slightly more awareness than simpler DPS characters, she rewards players with extremely high damage output.
With her ability to rapidly clear enemies, deliver strong burst damage, and control fights through confusion effects, Esther stands out as one of the best AoE DPS characters in the early game. She is an excellent choice for players looking for a character that combines efficiency, impact, and strong performance across most situations.
Overall, Esther is a very reliable pick. She may not be as universally adaptable as Mina, but she remains one of the best options for dominating early-game content, especially anything that involves fast AoE clearing and high burst damage.
