What Monsterlings actually do

A Monsterlingis a stat-and-effect plug-in for a character. Equipping a Monsterling gives that character the Monsterling's effects — roughly comparable to a summon or living-artifact slot in other gacha games. Each character has one Monsterling main slot plus two sub-slots, and the same Monsterling cannot occupy two characters at once.

Equipping a Monsterling to a character grants that Monsterling's effects.
One main Monsterling per character — the active effect rides on whoever holds the slot.

Sources by rarity

Each Monsterling has a fixed source determined by its rarity. Knowing the source first prevents you from wasting hours farming the wrong place.

  • Blue and belowSpawn freely in the overworld map (Cappy Mama, Uncle Cappy, Gorrik, Ring Slime).
  • PurpleRequest Board only — never the overworld. Plains Minotaur, Man War, Behemo-wolf.
  • Gold / ConquestConquest Board only — endgame best-in-slot picks.
  • Dimensional RiftSpecial and Boss tier — direct final mutations like Nokjung, Maple Odong, Amon, Avardan.

Dimensional Rift — the fast path

The Dimensional Rift is the densest source of mutation parents and the only source for the strongest Monsterlings in the game. You get three tickets per week, reset on Monday. Around 129 species can appear across roughly 19 boss encounters, with the seasonal pool rotating every few weeks.

  1. Unlock stages in order. Each stage opens sequentially — never refresh a locked stage.
  2. Refresh with gold on unlocked stages. If the cost gets steep, drop to a cheaper stage instead of chasing the price up.
  3. Wind targets sit at step 11+. Before step 11 the recommended weakness is not yet Wind, so Nokjung and Manwol stay locked off the early pool.
  4. Boss victories guarantee the drop. Win the fight, take the Monsterling.

Combining and star upgrades

Wild capture caps at 3★. Reaching 4★ and 5★ requires either Combining or Enhancement Stones. Combining takes two same-species same-star Monsterlings and rolls a chance to upgrade one to the next star tier — on failure you get a duplicate of either parent.

  • 1★ Gray+ copy → 2★ Green (rate-gated)
  • 2★ Green+ copy → 3★ Blue
  • 3★ Blue+ copy → 4★ Purple
  • 4★ Purple+ copy → 5★ Gold

For bulk operations, the Batch Combine option merges many Monsterlings at once. Batch always assigns random traits — useful for clearing inventory, never for shaping a specific Monsterling.

Combining UI with the trait-lock toggle that lets the player choose which traits carry over to the child Monsterling.
Trait-lock turns Combining into a deliberate trait-fix instead of a re-roll.

Enhancement Stones — safe star upgrade

Enhancement Stones upgrade a Monsterling's star rating without changing its traits. Use them when you have a copy with perfect rolls you don't want to risk through Combining.

  • Green Stone1★ Gray → 2★ Green
  • Blue Stone2★ Green → 3★ Blue
  • Purple Stone3★ Blue → 4★ Purple
  • Gold Stone4★ Purple → 5★ Gold

Stones drop in seasonal event shops. Stock up while events are live — they are the only star-upgrade method that preserves traits 100%.

Traits and Salmon Puree

Every Monsterling rolls four traits at the moment of capture. Their grade — gray, green, blue, purple, or yellow (Special) — drives the stat value. Traits are not permanent: Combining can change them, which is why investing materials in a low-roll copy is rarely worth it.

Trait set is locked at the moment the Monsterling is obtained — but Combining can shuffle it later.

Lower-rarity traits transfer at higher rates than yellow ones — meaning your best traits are the most likely to disappear in Combining. Lock yellow traits before any Combining attempt with Premium Salmon Puree, earned in the Rift Shop with Token Coins from weekly Rift runs.

  • 5 Purees1 trait locked
  • 10 Purees2 traits locked
  • 20 Purees3 traits locked
  • 40 Purees4 traits locked

The Rate tab in the Combining screen shows the exact transfer chance for every trait on every parent. Read it before confirming any combination — never combine blind.

Mutations

A subset of parent pairings has a small chance to produce a Mutation — a unique Monsterling unobtainable any other way. Each mutation has a fixed combination formula browsable from the Mutations tab in-game; undiscovered recipes show as silhouettes with parent requirements still visible.

Mutation combinations live on a dedicated screen — read it before combining.
  • Mutation drop chanceTypically 20–33% per attempt — see the in-game formula card
  • Fastest sourceDimensional Rift loot (skips chain steps)
  • Deepest sourceDaily map clears across every unlocked region
  • Trait controlSalmon Puree trait-lock still applies on Mutation results

For long-term roster depth the second pillar is clearing the map every day. Over weeks the cumulative Monsterling pool from a fully-cleared map dwarfs what Rift runs alone produce. The interactive map plots every capture node and Monsterling spawn — build a daily route that covers your unlocked regions.

Daily and weekly routine

Server resets at 00:00 UTC daily; the Dimensional Rift resets every Monday. The minimum-viable daily loop runs in 15–20 minutes once your account is past the early game.

  • Daily — Path keysSpend on progression materials. Auto Clear once a stage is cleared.
  • Daily — ConquestThree tickets. Primary long-term source of gold-rarity Monsterlings.
  • Daily — Daily ContributionsStarlight Crystals + Gold. Quick, never skip.
  • Daily — Request BoardFive requests. Target purple-rarity Monsterlings only.
  • Daily — Adventurer Quests75 Starlight Crystals from quests. Use Go fast-travel.
  • Daily — Friend KeysSend up to 30, receive up to 20 from friends.
  • Weekly — Dimensional RiftThree tickets, no auto-clear. Refresh stages to find your target.

Common mistakes

  • Combining without locking yellow traits. Even a 5★ with perfect rolls will lose them in a failed attempt. Lock with Salmon Puree first — always.
  • Searching the map for purple or gold rarity. They never spawn in the overworld. Only blue and below appear naturally.
  • Refreshing the Request Board for common drops. Refreshes cost gold. Use them only for purple targets that have no map spawn.
  • Burning event keys before unlocking the Rift. Push to step 10+ first, then convert event currency into Enhancement Stones at the event shop.
  • Combining two levelled copies. EXP only transfers from the higher-level parent. Combining two maxed Monsterlings just wastes one.
